Unipetrol continues its cooperation with ICT

05-08-2010

Unipetrol executed the agreement on cooperation with the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Prague. Unipetrol Group has been a strategic partner to ICT for nine years. The most important areas of cooperation between Unipetrol Group and ICT include awards for the most beneficial master and doctoral theses and the joint development of the Study and Tuition Centre in Most – Velebudice.

Prague, 5 August 2010 - “Educating experts for the chemical industry is very difficult without the support of strong partners. So we are happy to maintain the cooperation with Unipetrol Group," ICT Rector Josef Koubek said upon the execution of the agreement on cooperation and added: "Unipetrol’s continuing support to the Czech chemical sector needs to be appreciated especially in these tough economic times when many companies were forced to cut down on their sponsoring activities.”

Unipetrol Group has been cooperating with ICT on projects serving to popularise chemistry as well as on activities for students and graduates. Unipetrol participates in the Institute’s scholarship programmes and honours the best students. Since last year, the cooperation has included the consultancy of Unipetrol experts for bachelor, master, and doctor’s degree theses of ICT students.

“Although we are still tackling the impact of the global economic crisis, we must prepare for our future growth now. And growth would be impossible without young and promising experts. Educating such experts is thus crucial, in our opinion,"said Piotr Chełmiński, CEO, Unipetrol, a.s.

Unipetrol Group has cooperated with ICT Prague for nine years. The Institute is the only one in the Czech Republic to offer specialised study in all key areas of Unipetrol’s business – crude oil refining and wholesale, petrochemical production and retail distribution of motor fuels. Another example of strategic cooperation is the joint development of the Study and Tuition Centre in Most – Velebudice, near the Záluží industrial plant where the Group has its largest production facilities.

UNIPETROL, a.s. is a group of companies operating in the petrochemical industry in the Czech Republic. In 2005 UNIPETROL became a part of the PKN ORLEN Group, the largest oil processor in Central Europe. The UNIPETROL Group is oriented mostly towards oil processing, fuel distribution and petrochemical production. In all of these business areas the UNIPETROL Group is among the key players both in the Czech Republic and on the Central European market. The Group ranks among the leading firms in the Czech Republic in terms of its revenues, and employs almost 4,000 people.
