Prague, September 6, 2017 – Benzina, the Czech Republic’s largest filling station network and a part of the Unipetrol Group, contributes to the emission reduction by equipping its filling stations with urea-refueling devices known as AdBlue. Urea can be pumped from separate fuel dispensers or from a nozzle which is part of modern multimedia fuel dispensers. The project starts at six filling stations all over the Czech Republic. Other stations will follow gradually.
Benzina offered the option of pumping AdBlue from dispensers at a number of stations already in the past; however this option was possible only for trucks. AdBlue can now be easily refueled also by drivers of passenger cars with the Euro IV emission standard or higher. „We’ve made the urea refueling easier for our drivers. It’s more comfortable for them now,“ says Jakub Drastik, fuel expert from Benzina.
The first dispensers for passenger cars equipped with an integrated urea pumping system are located in Osice, Brandys nad Labem, Slany, Litvinov, Karvina and in Havirov. „In practice, the solution looks so that there’s an extra nozzle at the dispenser. For their AdBlue units, Benzina chose modern multimedia fuel dispensers which are gradually replacing traditional dispensers and allow the customers to refuel and simultaneously watch the station’s product prices or special offers. By this technology, we actually connect modern technologies in communications and transport,“ explained Agnieszka Bobrukiewicz, head of Benzina’s marketing department.
The option of refueling AdBlue directly from a dispenser is possible thanks to a sophisticated technology. „Urea tanks have to be either chrome or plastic and the line has to be tempered, as the freezing temperature is at eleven degrees below zero,“ added Jakub Drastik.
What is AdBlue?
Urea AUS 32, known as AdBlue, is a European trademark of a liquid additive used in selective catalytic reduction technology. This technology is applied in modification of exhaust emissions in diesel engines to the emission level Euro IV and higher. According to the manufacturer, urea has to be refueled in various intervals, approximately every 15,000 kilometers. The issue of emissions produced by diesel engines is currently one of the biggest problems going far beyond the automotive sector. Benzina thus actively participates in reducing emissions by offering urea at its filling stations. „This technology is designed only for diesel engines which are equipped with urea-injecting technology. Urea is injected into the exhaust gas catalyst where it first mixes with exhaust gas and reacts with the NOx arising from the diesel combustion. Instead of toxic gas, it’s the harmless mixture of water vapor and nitrogen that leave the exhaust pipe,“ explained Jakub Drastik.
