Prague, February 22, 2017 – Unipetrol and University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague signed an agreement on strategic partnership extending the collaboration for 2017. Unipetrol will support UCT, Prague with CZK 800,000.
„We know that by the presence we shape the future. We are a petrochemical company, therefore we try as much as possible to support the promotion of science and engineering fields and by close cooperation with the UCT to prepare its students for a potential professional career in our company,“ said Andrzej Modrzejewski, Unipetrol CEO, and explains: „Time cannot be stopped. Even we are currently undergoing a gradual generational change. Over the next ten years we will have to replace up to four hundred of our highly qualified and experienced staff.“
„We have been closely cooperating for 15 years now. There has been a join university center for three years inside the premises of Litvinov production plan where over forty students undergo their petrochemical and refinery majors in the form daily or distance learning directly in the production environment,” said Karel Melzoch, Rector of UCT, Prague, adding: „We are cooperating also on high school projects. One of them is for example the Chemical Olympiad.”
As part of the partnership, Unipetrol will support up to nine projects aiming at promotion of chemical fields, training of elementary, middle and high school teachers and supporting UCT students. Students will receive up to CZK 220,000 for the best thesis and academic results. Special reward will be granted to a thesis with a Unipetrol-based topic. In the traditionally promoted project – “Hour of Modern Chemistry” - the UCT students present an interactive sample lesson full of chemical experiments at various schools throughout the Czech Republic. Other joint projects include the Chemistry Olympiad for senior years of high schools as well as Sumer School for high school teachers and Fall School for middle school teachers. The best presentations are awarded as part of student scientific conference.
University Center UCT Prague – Unipetrol
Long-term cooperation which began in 2002 culminated in 2015 by founding the University Center UCT Prague – Unipetrol which is located directly in the production site Chempark Zaluzi in Litvinov. The center is currently attended by 33 undergraduate and 12 graduate students who can choose from three specializations: chemistry and chemical technology, alternative energy and environment or food technology.
