Unipetrol and the town of Most will plant 110 trees in Šibeník Park as part of the ‘Unipetrol to People’ campaign. In the campaign, which started last autumn, inhabitants of the Most area submitted and chose projects to be supported by Unipetrol. Three projects made it to the finals: a public wi-fi network in selected locations, tree-planting, and a dog park. The locals voted for one winning project and chose the tree-planting idea in which Unipetrol has invested CZK 1 million. The financial contribution will also cover follow-up care for several years.
Inhabitants of Most could submit their ideas and vote for individual projects in the Unipetrol to People campaign between October 2019 and January 2020. “Each year, we provide support to the neighbouring towns and municipalities, non-profit organisations, schools, and various social, cultural, and sports events. This time, we decided to do it the other way round and ask the inhabitants of Most directly about what their town needs. People submitted votes in various locations, in a special tramway, on the internet or by sending text messages,” says Katarzyna Woś, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Unipetrol Group.
"The city of Most will be even greener thanks to the winning project. But that's not all, planting activities are taking place in other areas in the city. These days, trees are being planted at Matilda and in the near future there will be also planting of suitable trees at the beach of Lake Most," added the Mayor of Most Jan Paparega.
The winning tree-planting idea received 888 votes; 604 votes supported the dog park, and 214 people chose the public wi-fi. The new trees in Šibeník Park in Most will have a positive impact on the local microclimate. They will help create a pleasant space for short relaxation, sport, or meeting with friends and neighbours. European hornbeam, sessile oak, and linden tree will be planted in the park. “We have symbolically planted the first out of 110 trees together with the representatives of the town of Most. We are the largest employer in the Most area, and being a good neighbour is a crucial aspect for us. That is why we believe that the new trees will make the locals happy and contribute to the public greenery revitalisation,” says Tomáš Herink, a member of the Board of Directors of the Unipetrol Group, summed up the campaign’s finale.
