People choose their favoured projects: Tree planting in Most and revitalisation of Pilařský Pond area in Litvínov

The Unipetrol to People campaign knows the winning projects. The residents of Litvínov and Most submitted a total of 260 improvement ideas upon Unipetrol’s request this autumn. A jury comprising the representatives of Unipetrol and the towns of Litvínov and Most has made a shortlist of three suggested projects for each community. The winners were selected by their inhabitants. With 888 votes, the tree planting project won in Most while in Litvínov, the public realm around the Pilařský Pond will be revitalised after this project received 1,184 votes. The implementation of the winning projects in both towns will start this year. Unipetrol will support each of them with CZK 1 million. The voting was open from October to the end of January in public locations in both towns, but local folk could also vote in a special tramway, online or by sending text messages.
“The campaign met with an extraordinary interest of inhabitants. Their active involvement is very important for us because they know best what their towns need most,” said Tomáš Herink, a member of the Board of Directors of the Unipetrol Group. He added: “We will start implementing the winning projects together with both towns this year.”
In Most, the three finalist projects included the implementation of a public wi-fi network in selected locations, tree planting, and construction of a dog park. The tree-planting project received 888 votes; the dog park had 604 votes, and the public wi-fi was given 214 votes. “I want to thank all inhabitants of our town who joined the campaign with their ideas. I am very pleased by the number of people voting in the campaign. The tree-planting project ranked first. I am looking forward to its implementation because you never have enough trees in towns. Our city will become more beautiful and new trees will help to reduce the temperature in the hot streets. Together with Unipetrol, we will now choose suitable locations and tree types. The financial contribution will be used not only for planting but also for the subsequent care for the trees,” said Jan Paparega, Mayor of Most.
The revitalisation of the Pilařský Pond won in Litvínov with 1,184 votes. It was followed by the construction of a skate park (438 votes) and renovation of the interior of the Citadela cultural centre (385 votes). “I also want to thank everyone who joined the project. I appreciate Unipetrol’s involvement and that it found another way to support our town. Unipetrol’s contribution will help us expand the planned revitalisation. Unipetrol could be involved in the creation of a relaxation zone, renovation of the existing playground, installation of elements for senior citizens, and expansion of the outdoor furniture,” said Kamila Bláhová, Mayor of Litvínov.
