Children’s safety in Kralupy nad Vltavou will be even better with education

22-09-2021

Today, a new road safety training area was formally opened at the Třebízského Primary School in Kralupy nad Vltavou. The ORLEN Unipetrol Group contributed CZK 750,000 to its creation within its corporate social responsibility activities. It supports daily life in the municipalities in the vicinity of its production plants. With the new training area, Kralupy children will not have to make complicated trips to other training areas in Mělník or Neratovice for road safety education.

“We are delighted that we could contribute to children’s education and safety in the region,” says Katarzyna Woś, Vice-Chair of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group’s Board of Directors. “The amount of road traffic is constantly on the rise, and children are among the most vulnerable accident victims. Therefore, it is imperative to prepare the youngest generation for possible risks, educate them in this respect, and introduce them to road safety rules, ideally in the form of play. The new road safety training area in Kralupy nad Vltavou is ideal for this task.”

“Kralupy pupils will learn road safety rules in various situations and acquire good habits for navigating pavements and roads at the new road safety training area. It was created during the summer holidays on the premises of the Třebízského Primary School,” says Marek Czechmann, mayor of Kralupy nad Vltavou, which runs the training area. There are 210 metres of road and 200 metres of pavement at the new road safety training area. With a modern layout, the training area simulates various intersections. Also, it includes exits, roundabouts, and a section with no overtaking. A railroad crossing, a carpark, a pedestrian crossing and one-way road sections are also included. Children who do not participate in road safety activities can watch from the stands. The road safety training area will also serve other schools, kindergartens, and the broader public from Kralupy and Vltavou and its vicinity.

“Our contribution of CZK 750,000 towards the creation of the road safety training area in Kralupy nad Vltavou is part of our CSR programme through which we seek to develop relations with local communities and provide them support in education, social issues and environmental protection,” explains Jaroslav Hacko, production director of the Kralupy Refinery, a part of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group. In 2020, ORLEN Unipetrol spent a total of CZK 20.8 million on various CSR activities.
