This year, ORLEN Unipetrol has continued its ORLEN Unipetrol For the People campaign, which supports projects to improve the lives of people living near its production sites. This time, the company financially supported Kralupy nad Vltavou. In the first step, the town representatives presented projects whose fate was decided by the public between February and March. People registered three proposals for the campaign. Apart from the winning project of building an outdoor workout ground in Mikovice, they were also interested in new barbecue locations at Strachov and playground revitalisation at the Hůrka housing estate. The ORLEN Unipetrol For the People campaign is one of many projects through which the group seeks to maintain close relations with local communities based on bilateral trust. In the past years, the campaign took place in Litvínov, where the surroundings of a pond were revitalised and in Most, where inhabitants voted for planting greenery.
“We launched the voting for the best project to improve the life of Kralupy nad Vltavou inhabitants at the end of February. Today, people can use the new outdoor workout ground and revitalised children’s playground when the weather is good. I am delighted that the town managed to use our financial donation of CZK 1 million this way”, says Katarzyna Woś, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group. “We want to be a good neighbour. So, the successful projects in Most and Litvínov were followed by another round of our ORLEN Unipetrol For the People campaign in Kralupy nad Vltavou where our second refinery is located. Similarly to the earlier projects, we were pleasantly surprised by the huge interest of people. I am happy that Kralupy nad Vltavou inhabitants also wanted to actively participate in improving their surroundings.”
“We appreciate the collaboration with the ORLEN Unipetrol Group very much, as it has been contributing to the better life of the inhabitants of our town for a long time,” says Libor Lesák, mayor of Kralupy nad Vltavou. “The ORLEN Unipetrol For the People campaign is an excellent example of bilateral cooperation. The inhabitants of our town could decide which of the three selected projects would be implemented thanks to the financial donation from the ORLEN Unipetrol Group. In the end, the public voted the most in favour of building an outdoor workout ground at the former children’s traffic park in Mikovice and expanding the children’s playground. Thus, children can exercise their skills on the new playing elements.”
The ORLEN Unipetrol For the People campaign was successfully launched in the autumn of 2019 in Litvínov and Most and immediately sparked enormous interest among the inhabitants of both towns in Northern Bohemia. In the final round, people from Litvínov voted for the revitalisation of the surroundings of the Pilař Pond for sporting and recreational use, while inhabitants of Most opted to plant trees in the Šibeník municipal park and other locations. Both projects were subsequently implemented with support from the ORLEN Unipetrol Group. The ORLEN Unipetrol For the People campaign is part of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group’s long-term effort to support towns and villages near its production plants.
