Chemical recycling uses the principles of pyrolysis, or thermal decomposition at high temperatures. It is a very efficient technology for the reuse of waste plastics. For several years now, we have been testing a technological process that enables us to recycle plastics chemically at our test pyrolysis unit in our chemical plant in Litvínov. It involves the high recovery of original waste and its conversion into hydrocarbons that can be integrated back into petrochemical production. It is not necessary to expend a lot of effort on thorough sorting, as most plastics used can be recycled in this way. In addition, chemical recycling makes plastic almost infinitely recyclable. In 2027, we intend to commission a high-volume pyrolysis unit with the capacity to process up to 20,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year.
