Local inhabitants to suggest and select projects to be implemented by Unipetrol and the towns of Most and Litvínov next year

15-07-2019

Litvínov, July 15, 2019 – Unipetrol announces the launch of a campaign inviting the inhabitants of the Most region to get involved in the submission of proposals of not-for-profit projects to be implemented together with the towns of Most and Litvínov next year. The campaign is held in Most and Litvínov from mid-July and inhabitants can get involved in various ways. Unipetrol will address them through adverts on bus and tram stops and through environmental graffiti on pavements. Voting boxes are placed in public locations, on the premises of institutions with public access or at the reception of the chemical site where almost 6,000 people come to work every day. “A special tram has also gone to the streets,” says Jakub Kosmowski, Marketing Director of the Unipetrol Group. The ideas will be collected until August 31.

Each year, we support towns and municipalities around us, non-profit organisations, schools and diverse social, cultural and sports projects. We plant fish into the River Bílina twice a year and we care for peregrine falcons which nest on the chimneys of our plant. We have recently given funding to a new fire engine for the voluntary firefighters in Litvínov. We were thinking about what to do next and it occurred to us to contact both towns and ask directly their people, our neighbours and fellow citizens what they wish,” explains Tomáš Herink, a member of the Board of Directors of the Unipetrol Group and a local native.

Both towns have joined the Unipetrol campaign. They were addressed by Unipetrol representatives with an offer of cooperation and supervision over the collection and selection of ideas. “The engagement of private entities is important for the development of our region. We are pleased that as the largest local employer, Unipetrol is very active in this respect,” said Kamila Bláhová, Mayor of the town of Litvínov. Her Most counterpart, Mayor Jan Paparega, added: “We like the way Unipetrol has approached this issue. It did not choose mere advertising but came up with a CSR concept which engages the locals, as well.”

With the campaign that will last until the end of the year, Unipetrol pursues several objectives. “We will engage the locals because they know best what they lack and what can be done better. Our main goal for all the activities we do is to bring value to the people we reach. In that instance people of Most and Litvínov. Together with the two towns, we will make a financial contribution to the implementation of a selected project. We are a big part of Usti region and we want to be part of the local community." Jakub Kosmowski added.

Inhabitants of Most and Litvínov are invited to cooperate in various ways. They are addressed through advertising placed on tram and bus stops, through graffiti on pavements as well as through questionnaires completed together with employees of a specialised agency. “The campaign is divided into two stages. First, people will be invited to submit their ideas about what they lack in the Most region and what could be done better. The ideas will be collected until August 31. Second, we will choose three projects together with the representatives of both towns, and the final implementation will again be decided by the locals through voting. We want to know by the end of the year which project(s) will be implemented by the towns next year,” Jakub Kosmowski concludes.
