Prague, July 19, 2019 – Refinery and petrochemical group Unipetrol has published its financial results for the second quarter of 2019. Revenue grew by 10% on the year to CZK 34.1 billion. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA LIFO) amounted to CZK 1.8 billion. Unipetrol continued developing its retail segment. Under the Benzina brand, it operates 413 filling stations in the Czech Republic and increased its share on the local retail market with fuel to 23.7%. In April, the Benzina brand entered the Slovak market with the first filling stationed opened in Malacky.
“In the second quarter, we have achieved good results, although we were facing the unfavourable macroeconomic situation. In addition to that, we carried out a number of investment and maintenance projects in the refinery and petrochemical segments, which also affected our production performance. However, our results are better than in the first quarter of the year, and if we deduct the payment from insurers for the Litvínov 2015 extraordinary event which was recognized in Q2 2018, the operational profit is comparable in year-on-year terms, as well,” summarises Tomasz Wiatrak, CEO of the Unipetrol Group.
The volume of processed oil amounted to 1.9 million tonnes. Sales volumes of refinery products amounted to 1.67 million tonnes and of petrochemical products to 409 thousand tonnes. The second-quarter investment totalled CZK 1.6 billion. “Our company is stable and has a strong financial background, which allows us to meet our objectives. We maintain a high level of investments, especially in the modernisation and greening of our production and in the research and development of circular economy, renewable sources and biofuels,” Tomasz Wiatrak explained.
In the retail segment, Unipetrol continued investing in the modernisation and expansion of the Benzina network of filling stations in the Czech Republic and in the development of activities in the Slovak market. “We have Stop Café bistros available at 282 out of 413 stations already. Doing so, we continue reinforcing our leading position in the Czech Republic. After opening our first filling station in Malacky in Slovakia, we are becoming more visible at international level too,” Tomasz Wiatrak concludes.
