The photograph “The Night Refinery” won the Industrial Photography category where the jury’s expert chairman was Jan Pohribný, president of the Association of Professional Photographers.
“The picture was made during a night shift while on patrol through technological facilities. The photo depicts part of the POX (partial oxidation) production. Night-time industrial photographs have their own magic; moreover, a normal civilian would never see this with their own eyes. Maybe that is why the photograph was so successful,” adds
Bohuslav Rybín, a technologist for the Unipetrol production team and author of the winning photograph. Artistic editing was done by Michal Černich from the marketing department. In 2021, the picture will be part of the travelling exhibition Czech Industry Photo, which will also be enriched by R&D photographs submitted by Czech universities.
Unipetrol finished third in the Support of Expert Education of Children and Youth category with its ‘A Wonderful Day with Chemistry’ show. The jury chairman was Bohumil Kartous, advisor to the chairman of the Senate Committee on Education.

The award also proves that the show can be impressive and has the potential to appeal to thousands more pupils and students. During their Wonderful Day with Chemistry, children find out that chemistry is not boring at all, but instead can be entertaining and full of surprises and experiments. And, most of all, it may open the door to an attractive future,” says
Unipetrol Foundation director Lucie Pražáková, adding:
“This year, because of the hygienic measures, we could not continue the traditional form of this project. Therefore, we moved it to the online environment and recorded A Wonderful Lesson in Chemistry.”
