Kralupy nad Vltavou and Veltrusy residents voted to build new outdoor gyms and playgrounds

28-04-2022

ORLEN Unipetrol has announced the winning projects aimed to improve the life of the residents of Kralupy nad Vltavou and Veltrusy that received the most votes in this year’s ‘ORLEN Unipetrol to People’ campaign. The residents of Kralupy nad Vltavou voted most for an outdoor gym and expanded play area in the Mikovice neighbourhood. In Veltrusy, the highest interest was in building a playground for children and outdoor training in the park behind the cemetery. The ORLEN Unipetrol Group will donate CZK 1 million to each town to implement these projects. The ‘ORLEN Unipetrol to People’ campaign is one of the Group’s successful activities to maintain close relations with the local communities based on mutual trust.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the almost 1,200 votes collected in the voting boxes and in online voting within the ORLEN Unipetrol to People project in Kralupy nad Vltavou and Veltrusy. And we are pleased even more to support each town with CZK 1 million to implement the two most required projects,” says Katarzyna Woś, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group. “Together with the local representatives, we will be involved in building an outdoor gym and expanding the children’s playground in the Mikovice neighbourhood in Kralupy nad Vltavou. In Veltrusy, we will help them fulfil the dream about a children’s and training play area in the park behind the cemetery. We are looking forward to successfully implementing both projects and other activities that are part of our efforts to be a good neighbour.”

The inhabitants of Kralupy nad Vltavou handed in 646 votes, including 299 ballots and 347 votes in online voting. The winning project – building an outdoor gym and expanding the playground in Mikovice – received almost half of the votes (322). The second place was revitalising the public space and recreational playground in the Hůrka estate (233 votes), followed by the new barbecue points in Strachov and Macalák (91 votes).

“I want to thank all residents who joined the voting and also the ORLEN Unipetrol Group for the funds granted to implement the winning project and its long-term efforts to improve the life in Kralupy nad Vltavou,” says Marek Czechmann, Mayor of Kralupy nad Vltavou. “We are ready to implement the most favoured project. We count on the total cost of CZK 1,100,000. We have not set any specific dates yet, but plan to implement the project within two months, most likely during the summer holidays.”

In Veltrusy, the ORLEN Unipetrol to People campaign attracted 522 votes. The local voting was even more clear: the winning project received 333 votes, i.e., almost 64 per cent of the total number. The most required project of building a children’s and training playground in the park behind the cemetery was followed by the project of revitalising the public space in Družstevní Street, including fitness elements (62 votes), and external modifications around the new community centre with a sit-down area under the lime tree (127 votes).

“I am delighted that the ORLEN Unipetrol to People campaign raised great interest among the Veltrusy residents. We want to thank the ORLEN Unipetrol Group for their generous support,” says Filip Volák, Mayor of Veltrusy. He adds: “Considering the current situation, we expect the project implementation, including the needed preparations, to last about six months. We do not want to underestimate the preparations, including the project creation, opinions of the affected authorities, and tender procedures for contractors. As the project documentation and specific budget are not ready and completed yet, we cannot give the specific completion date. Still, we will do our best to finish the work by the end of this year. The town plans to contribute to the investment with funds for the street furniture, fencing, or addition of smaller play equipment elements.”
