Outdoor Fitness for Elderly and a Camp for Children: Unipetrol Employees Raised CZK 211,000 for NPOs

09-05-2019

Prague, May 9, 2019 – As part of their annual charity entitled Fulfilled Wishes, employees of refinery and petrochemical group Unipetrol provide support to non-profit activities in the locations where Unipetrol has its manufacturing or research sites. This year, they have for the fifth time donated money to the children’s home in Most and for the first time to the Litvínov-based home for the elderly, Naděje. For both institutions, they raised a total of CZK 211,000. This year’s charity of Unipetrol Group employees held in six Unipetrol locations has brought in a record-high sum of CZK 464,000.

“We are very pleased – not only with the sum donated, but also with the fact that this is the fifth year of our collaboration with Unipetrol. We will use the CZK 96,000 to fund various trips; and our children will also go to a camp. We want our children to have as many experiences as possible and we want to make their everyday life in the children’s home more varied,” says Miroslava Kavecká, Director of the children’s home in Most.

We were twice as happy. For the first time, it was when we were addressed by Unipetrol, and for the second time when we received almost CZK 115,000. We want to use the money to buy outdoor fitness equipment for our seniors, to modernise garden summerhouses and to revitalise the relaxation zone,” says Hana Sošková, Executive Director of Krušnohorská poliklinika which runs the home for the elderly, Naděje, in Litvínov.

The first charity of Unipetrol Group employees entitled Fulfilled Wishes was held in 2011. Unipetrol matches the sum raised to double the amount donated. This year, the charity has raised CZK 464,000. The total amount of money raised during the charity’s existence is CZK 2,062,086. The funds collected have been distributed among six non-profit organisations. “We choose the non-profit organisations that are active in the regions of our six manufacturing plants. We help children, families, mentally and physically disabled persons and senior citizens,” says Jiří Hájek, Corporate Communication Director at the Unipetrol Group.

The children’s home in Most supports and looks after homeless children and children whose families are facing a difficult life situation. It is available to children between the ages of 3−18, or even to older children – during the time of their future job training. The home’s capacity is 48 children. It also runs a facility providing urgent assistance and a halfway house which helps young people leaving children’s homes once they come of age.

The mission of the home for the elderly, Naděje, is to offer long-stay services and care for the elderly over 65 years of age. The target group includes senior citizens who need regular care of another due to their health condition, reduced self-sufficiency or another adverse social situation and who cannot be served by field services or close relatives. The home provides accommodation, catering, assistance in the daily routine activities, medical and nursing care. It also intermediates contact with the social environment, activisation and social and therapeutic activities.
