Unipetrol donated CZK 2.69m to the development of 20 towns and municipalities this year

02-11-2020

Unipetrol, the largest refiner and petrochemical group in the Czech Republic, has provided financial donations to 20 towns and municipalities in the vicinity of its production plants in Záluží near Litvínov and Kralupy nad Vltavou. The grants totalling CZK 2.69 million will contribute to the local development and improved quality of life of the local communities. For instance, the towns and municipalities will invest the money in furnishings for the local nursing home, kindergarten building repairs, purchase of a utility vehicle for a dog rescue centre, or to build a playing area for children.

“We want to be not only a good employer but also a good neighbour for our fellow citizens. That is why we annually contribute to projects that improve the quality of life in their immediate vicinity. This year, we have donated CZK 2.69 million for the implementation of 20 projects. The towns and municipalities near our plants in Záluží at Litvínov and Kralupy nad Vltavou could thus invest in the local development beyond their budgetary framework,” says Unipetrol Group CEO Tomasz Wiatrak, adding the local towns and municipalities mostly use the funds to purchase new furnishings for children and adults or renovate public buildings and areas.

The town of Most has purchased electric nursing beds, including anti-decubitus matrasses and bedside tables, for the local nursing home. In Litvínov, they used the money to buy a passenger utility car for the local dog shelter. Meziboří, Lom, Horní Jiřetín, Veltrusy and Zlončice will buy playing equipment for sporting purposes or equipment for play areas. The municipality of Hora Svaté Kateřiny will use the funds to repair the wiring in the kindergarten building, Mariánské Radčice will fence the public greenery, and the town of Kralupy nad Vltavou will build a new traffic park.

The Unipetrol Group has adopted corporate social responsibility as one of its priorities when building a sustainable business plan. Unipetrol approaches its activities ethically and responsibly, which is why it has introduced international standards to the CSR segment, as well. Its primary efforts include the steady development of the Group and its relationship with local communities with respect to education, social issues, and the environment. In 2019, the total Unipetrol’s expenditure on CSR activities rose by 67% to CZK 25.5 million.
