Almost a quarter of young people under the age of 26 buy Christmas gifts at the last minute, and 15% of all respondents use filling stations for this purpose, according to a recent IPSOS survey for ORLEN. The largest network of filling stations in Czechia has therefore prepared a Christmas offer that allows customers to buy gifts even on Christmas Eve. The range includes popular Stop Cafe products, boxes of chocolates, wines, mobile accessories and prepaid fuel cards with discounts on fuel. These are traditionally the most popular items.
According to a survey, men buy Christmas gifts at filling stations about twice as often as women. "A large number of our filling stations are open non-stop. This makes them the ideal place for last-minute shopping, including on Christmas Eve. This year, we have again prepared a gift edition of popular prepaid fuel cards and other gift items, so there is definitely plenty to choose from. You can also use the benefit points you have accumulated in our app to make purchases," says Rostislav Moravec, director of the ORLEN filling station network.
For several years now, the most popular Christmas gift has been the Tankarta Easy prepaid fuel cards. They can be used to pay not only for fuel, but also for all other products and refreshments at the filling station, including car washing and vacuuming. "Our prepaid fuel cards have become a popular Christmas gift. Their popularity is growing every year. In November and December, their sales regularly increase by almost a third compared to other months. During the last days before Christmas, sales are up to six times higher," adds Moravec.
The survey also shows that 29% of motorists use their fuel card regularly, while another 18% have one but only use it occasionally. The ORLEN brand is the most frequently mentioned brand among fuel card holders (23%). The benefits of loyalty programmes are attractive to customers – 45% of respondents say they welcome mobile apps because they offer interesting benefits, and another 31% use them because they are necessary to obtain benefits.
The Easy fuel card can be purchased online at orlen.cz/tankarty or directly at ORLEN filling stations. The card can be linked to the ORLEN loyalty app, where customers earn reward points for each payment that can be exchanged for rewards.
Filling stations are not just a place to fill up with fuel – 11% of respondents buy toys for their children at filling stations if something catches their eye, and another 15% are not averse to buying toys. This means that a quarter of filling station visitors are open to buying toys, with men buying about a third more toys than women.
In addition to the Christmas edition of the Tankarta Easy fuel card, customers can choose from the following range of products:
• Stop Cafe private label products: pralines, coffee, bars and boxes of chocolates, including Stop Cafe fair-trade coffee beans specially blended in Belgium
• Gift boxes of chocolates from renowned brands: Lindt, Milka and Ferrero
• Stylish Stop Cafe thermos mug
• Gifts for children: card games and travel games, soft toys, toy cars, notebooks

ORLEN – the international network of fuels, energy and refreshments
The ORLEN network of filling stations is a member of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group owned by the international ORLEN Group, which runs more than 3,500 fuel stations in seven Central European countries – Poland, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania, Hungary, Austria, and Slovakia. In Czechia, the ORLEN network comprises 443 stations with a 28.6% market share in the volume of fuels sold. The ORLEN network is a market leader in terms of both the number of sites and the volume of fuels sold. The popularity of the ORLEN brand with Czech consumers is reflected by the fact that the ORLEN network of filling stations has been awarded as the Most Trustworthy Brand in Czechia six times and as the Merchant of the Year three times.
At its stations, ORLEN offers premium Efecta fuel with a proven purifying effect and top-class Verva fuel that cares for the engine system and offers enhanced performance parameters. ORLEN sites also provide alternative fuels, including liquified petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural gas (CNG), synthetic fuel HVO100, and battery- and hydrogen-driven e-mobility. ORLEN offers electricity at 294 charging points and operates hydrogen refuelling stations in Prague- Barrandov and Litvínov-Záluží.
The Stop Cafe concept is a significant part of the offering, being a crucial pillar in ORLEN brand’s convenience sales. In the Czech Republic, Stop Cafe is available at 363 out of 443 filling stations, i.e., at more than 80% of them. It is offered at nearly 2,500 sites within the entire international network. Stop Cafe offers a broad range of meals and food products – from popular hotdogs and coffee to more than 1,000 products, including packaged food, ready-to-serve meals, and specialities in traditional, vegetarian, and vegan versions. The offer keeps developing – the ORLEN competence centre in Prague is working on new product ranges focused on a healthy lifestyle, including breakfasts, bakery products, ready-to-serve meals, and private brand products that will react to the current trends and customer needs.
ORLEN also issues its own fuel cards, EASY and BUSINESS, and runs two mobile apps – the loyalty ORLEN app and a car care app, Mycí digi linka.
