Prague, June 28, 2017 – After more than three years, the legendary rally driver Roman Kresta is back among racers. He’ll be defending the colors of the MOGUL Racing Team where he spent seven years in the past collecting a number of successes. These include victories in the Rally Bohemia or the Barum Czech Rally Zlín in which he will take part this year. In the cabin of Škoda Fabia R5 racing special, he will be accompanied by his co-driver Petr Starý.
MOGUL Racing Team acquired, at least for this season, the phenomenal driver Roman Krest whom it persuaded to come back to racing tracks. This legend who celebrated his 41st birthday this year, will supplement the Czech rally’s greatest hope, Jan Černý, in the racing stable. The MOGUL Racing Team’s ambitions will reach up high with such great crews. „We want the Czech motorsport to continue to attract new viewers. Czech rally needs to be supported and who else should do it than the traditional Czech brands - MOGUL and BENZINA. We believe that the combination of driving guru Roman Kresta and young ambitious racer Jan Černý will be the right magnet for the audience,“ explains Petr Kalach, head of Paramo’s marketing from the Unipetrol Group under which the MOGUL Racing Team falls in.
Roman Kresta, who recently devoted himself to his own Kresta Racing Team, has been receiving return offers on a regular basis. By his own words, however, he was partly quite busy and partly, after many years spent behind the wheel, he even lacked the desire and motivation to race. Nevertheless, all this changed this year.
„There were several factors at a time actually. I began to feel like I could treat myself, take a little rest from my usual hustle and bustle and simply take a ride in my racing car. There was still the offer from Paramo on the table. I was also still hearing from my co-driver Petr Starý and even my children would ask me about whether they’d see me race again. On top of this, a friend and a longtime co-driver of mine Petr Gross has been recovering from a serious car accident. I promised him we’d have a ride together as soon as he gets in shape. And this means I have to be in shape too,“ says Roman Kresta smiling. „Last but not least, I want to make my fans happy. There would be no rally without them. They deserve it too,“ he adds.
And it’s the sports fans to whom also Benzina, the Czech Republic’s largest filling station network, part of the Unipetrol Group and a supporter of the MOGUL Racing Team, has long been devoted. „As part of the project “Rozjeďte to naplno”, we bring in fresh sporting experiences to the general public, whether it’s an extreme cross-country running or an opportunity to try out acrobatic flying. Support of motorsport has a stable place in our activities. It’s an honor for us to be part of such a big return this year,“ says Agnieszka Bobrukiewicz, head of Benzina’s marketing department.
Although Roman Kresta is taking his preparations very seriously; he’s training and tuning his car, he admits that after such a long time spend outside the cockpit, he must for the first time – at least in the first race – stop thinking high: „It has always been my goal to win. Now my goal is to take part. Even if I put all my effort in the race I have to be realistic in this respect. The ride itself will be a reward for me. Rally Bohemia is a great race and I want to enjoy it,“ says Kresta who is heading straight to Mladá Boleslav after today’s press conference where he intends to use the last two days before the race to get to know the track.
Roman Kresta’s fans will see him at the Rally Bohemia on Saturday and Sunday, July 1 and 2. From August 25 to 27, Kresta will be fighting at the Barum Czech Rally Zlín.
