According to the audited consolidated financial results for the past year the Unipetrol Group created net profits of CZK 635.2m in 2002 (the holding’s profit in the previous year equalled CZK 2,215.8m), with consolidated revenues in the amount of CZK 60.197bn (CZK 80.630 in 2001). With the change in consolidation rules for 2002 Česká rafinérská was consolidated by the proportionate method, which equals a 51% share of the company. In 2001, it was consolidated by the full method. The Unipetrol Group’s financial results were impacted above all by the rising price of crude oil and the resultant unfavourable price situation on the domestic and European petrochemical product markets. The August floods, which caused significant losses above all to Spolana, were also reflected in the holding’s financial results. The floods also greatly affected Chemopetrol’s financial results, where some of the company’s key customers were directly affected by the floods and thus limited Chemopetrol in both production and trade. The most important impact on the Group’s financial results came from the decline in financial results of Česká rafinérská, caused above all by the unfavourable refining margin and strong Czech crown. The refinery had to be shut down for some time because of the flooding.
