On Saturday morning (9 December 2006) it was ascertained at Česká rafinérská, a.s.’ delivery terminal that the company was dispensing BA95 petrol with an unusually high density. Petrol was contaminated by diesel oil owing to a technical error.Prague, 11 December 2006 – Česká rafinérská, a.s. (ČeR) dispensed the product to wholesale purchasers of all the company’s shareholders over the course of several hours. Unipetrol Rafinérie and its customers were among the affected parties too. Prior to the problem being detected, some of the petrol was distributed to filling stations and, in the case of Makro, sold directly to customers. According to the information provided by Česká rafinérská, all defective supplies were subsequently pumped out, returned to the refinery and replaced with regular petrol.
As regards the petrol stations of Benzina, a company that belongs to the Unipetrol group (100%), the defective petrol was only ascertained during the pumping over of a delivery of Natural 95 petrol from a petrol tanker into a tank of the Vrchlabí filling station. On the basis of this fact, Benzina recalled all petrol tankers from their routes and, after the goods’ quality had been checked, these returned to the dispensing terminals at the Kralupy refinery. During this event no customers were damaged in the Benzina petrol stations network, and continuous supply of petrol stations was not threatened.
Unipetrol, a.s. is addressing the matter together with Česká rafinérská, a.s. The company has already taken measures within its internal procedures aimed at preventing a repetition of similar incidents.
Česká rafinérská, a.s. shareholder structure: Unipetrol – 51%; Eni – 16.3%; ConocoPhillips – 16.3%, Shell – 16.3%.
