New member of the Supervisory Board of UNIPETROL

At its meeting today the Supervisory Board of UNIPETROL appointed a new board member, Waldemar Maj, for the period until the next company General Meeting. Mr. Maj has held the position of Vice President for Finance on the Board of Directors of UNIPETROL’s parent company, PKN ORLEN, since September 2007.

Prague, 8th of November 07 – As the Vice President for Finance at PKN Orlen, Waldemar Maj (51), oversees the company’s accounting and auditing activities, including financial management, cost management, supply and customer relations and investor relations.

Before joining PKN Orlen Mr. Maj was Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at BGŽ S.A. bank from 2005. From 2003 to 2004 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of DZ Bank Polska S.A. in Warsaw, and from 2000 to 2002 he worked as a Senior Associate at McKinsey & Company, also in Warsaw. Mr. Maj lived in the USA between 1996 and 2000 where he was Senior Investment Officer at the Oil, Gas and Mining Department of the International Finance Corporation (World Bank group) in Washington. In 1995 he worked as a Corporate Finance Summer Associate at the Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich for two months. He was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bank Gdański S.A. from1993 to 1994, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Financial Systems Development between 1992 and 1994, and also an advisor to the Polish Minister of Finance from 1991 to 1994. From 1981 to 1991 Mr. Maj worked as an assistant at the Institute of Physics at the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Waldemar Maj studied at the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1989 he received a Doctorate in physics from the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He also qualified as a Master in Business Administration (MBA) in finance at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration in Boston, USA, in 1996.
