The Inorganic Chemistry Research Institute (Unipetrol Group) Receives a 6.92 million Crown Institutional Support Grant

The Inorganic Chemistry Research Institute as one of ten research institutes in the country to receive financial support from the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2012.

Litvínov, 14. May 2012 – The Inorganic Chemistry Research Institute (VÚAnCH), a member of the Unipetrol Group, has received an institutional support grant from the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the amount of 6.92 million crowns. This recognition successfully completes several years of effort made by this institute to receive this grant.

“This government grant will be used to support a number of different internal projects of the Institute. Among these will be our project to improve occupational health and safety, programs related to staff training and professional growth and support for work with other international research groups. We also want to provide support for our efforts to develop special patentable zeolites,” said Milan Petrák, the Director of the Institute.

Institutional Support is one of the two basic types of public funding provided to help research activities in the country. This type of grant is made at an institutional level and, based on the underlying law. This funding can also be used for the “long-term strategic (conceptual) development of a research institute, in recognition of the results being achieved”. The second type of funding is targeted support, in other words, a grant provided to support a specific project. Targeted support can come from a number of different types of funding organizations and its primary purpose is to help in the furthering and accomplishment of a specific research goal or objective.

This year, the Inorganic Chemistry Research Institute (VÚAnCH) is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary. The Institute is an active member of the Czech Chemical Industry Association, the Czech Association of Research Organizations. It is co-founder of the “Czech Technological Platform for Bio-Components in Transportation and Chemical Industries” and a co-founder of the “Czech Technological Platform for Sustainable Chemistry”. Since 2004, the Institute has been the holder of a certificate of compliance with the ISO 9001:2000 standard for the fields of research and development in chemistry, technologies related to the use of raw materials and the chemical analysis of materials in a solid, liquid or gaseous state.

The Inorganic Chemistry Research Institute is located in Ústí nad Labem and, in addition to its research and development work, it offers a number of environment-related services (such as water and wastewater analysis) and professional consulting.
