The standpoint of STOP Unipetrol’s Selling Off is completely wrong

30-11-2006

The association is essentially wrong to blame Unipetrol’s majority owner – PKN Orlen – and Unipetrol’s current top management for the fact that the European Commission has imposed upon Kaučuk a fine for a cartel agreement. The fine relates to the period (1999 – 2002) when Unipetrol’s majority owner was the Czech state (63%), represented by the National Property Fund. Its stake was only transferred to Poland’s PKN Orlen in May 2005.

Prague, 1 December 2006 – As regards Unipetrol’s further action in connection with the fine imposed by the European Commission, we have on several occasions declared that we do not agree with the fine for a price fixing cartel. At the present time, our legal experts are considering further steps to protect the company – for example, a possible appeal to the court of first instance in Luxembourg. The company must appeal no later than within two months from the delivery of the European Commission’s official decision. We have yet to receive this decision. We are determined, however, to use all possibilities of legal defence.
