Unipetrol Foundation will annualy distribute six million crowns

Prague, March 30, 2017 – At least six million crowns will be divided among high school and university students by newly established Unipetrol Foundation. The largest Czech petrochemical group Unipetrol is behind its creation. The company is also Foundation’s biggest supporter. The Foundation will be meeting its purpose – that is to support students in natural and chemical fields and to popularize science – both through scholarship programs and paid students internships as well as grant programs for high schools. It’s already possible for students to apply for the scholarship program. The deadline for applications is the end of June.  

„We have opened educational opportunities to the widest possible number of students, regardless of their origin or social background. In a very specific form and a real sum of six million crowns per year,“ said Andrzej Modrzejewski, CEO of the Unipetrol Group, and added: „The establishment of the Foundation is another contribution to the future of chemical industry, science and research. It will also lead to popularization and development of natural and technical fields amidst the coming generation.“

The Foundation will fulfill its objectives through a scholarship program for high school and university students and a grant program supporting high school.  .

Scholarship program: three million crowns for students
The scholarship program is intended for high school and university students in natural and technical fields whose financial situation prevents them from full developing of their talents and skills. Besides the above-average academic results, the Board of Directors will also assess students’ current activities and their future development plans. The scholarship program opens on April 1, 2017. This year’s deadline for submitting scholarship applications is set for 30 June, 2017. Results will be announced during August and September together with carrying out the support.

Grant program: three million crowns for high schools
The funds are intended for technical equipment of schools and for carrying out the projects conducted by students in classes and seminars. The grant proceedings will be opened in September together with the start of the new school year. The deadline for applications is set for December; grants will be paid out in March 2018. 

Andrzej Modrzejewski, Unipetrol Group CEO, is the Chairman of Unipetrol Foundation’s Board of Directors. Other board members include Karel Melzoch, rector of the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, and Tomáš Herink, Member of the Unipetrol Group’s Board of Directors responsible for research and development.
