Prague, 24. June 2014 – Representatives of the Unipetrol Group and the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague (ICT) signed a deed of gift for the year 2014. A mutual partnership in the field of chemistry popularization and promotion of education now continues without interruption for thirteen years. This year, Unipetrol will support selected school projects with the amount of 800 000, 00 CZK.
“This year we will especially support traditional educational projects which were met with very favourable response in recent years from students and teachers. We will focus particularly on the Summer and Autumn school of teachers of secondary and elementary schools, the project ‘An hour of modern chemistry’ in the Usti region and the award for the best dissertation of ICT students,” says CEO and Chairman of the Unipetrol Board Mare Świtajewski. In cooperation with the ICT Unipetrol is also becoming a major partner of the fiftieth year of the Chemistry Olympics.
The Unipetrol gift will contribute to the implementation of various educational activities and projects aimed not only at students but also at teachers of chemistry. Autumn school for teachers of elementary schools aims to exchange the experiences and information of elementary school teachers on innovations in teaching chemistry. It builds on the Summer school of secondary school teachers, held at ICT in August.
One popular project is the Hour of Modern Chemistry, during which a team of presenters visits elementary and secondary schools to demonstrate interesting chemical experiments in an entertaining way. The aim is to show the modern forms of teaching chemistry.
The financial rewards but can also be achieved by the students themselves. Unipetrol will support the award for the best dissertation with a chemical theme, an excellent school report or winning presentation at the Student Research Conference, at which the jury also includes representatives of Unipetrol.
