Unipetrol RPA to exhibit at the trade fair in Milan

24-03-2009

The Plast09 trade fair is to be held on 24 to 28 March in the Italian city of Milan. Unipetrol RPA is the only producer of plastics from the Czech Republic exhibiting at this prestigious exhibition. It presents its portfolio of Mosten and Liten products there. The trade fair, which is focused on production and processing of plastics will this year be participated in by up to 1,300 exhibitors from 40 countries around the world.

Prague, 24 March 2009 – The petrochemical company Unipetrol RPA will be presenting its key products at the Plast09 trade fair – polyethylenes with the trade name Liten and Mosten brand polypropylenes.

The company will be presenting a wide range of these products and possibilities for their use at the trade fair, which begins today in Milan and lasts until 28 March. Those interested will also be able to familiarise themselves with the past and present of plastics production in Unipetrol RPA in an exhibition covering 68 square metres, which is located in Hall 20, Stand B20. An offer of consultancy services has also been prepared in the Unipetrol stand for potential customers and business partners as is now the tradition.

The PLAST trade fair is held every three years and alternates with similarly focused trade fairs in the German city of Düsseldorf and the English city of Birmingham. This represents the most important event of the year

in the field of production and processing of plastics. More than one and a half thousands exhibitors from 50 countries around the world participated in the last exhibition in Milan in 2006. Exhibitions were displayed on an area of 65 thousand square metres and the event was visited by almost 70 thousand visitors from 125 countries.

The trade fair is "more modest" this year. According to information from the organisers, this time there will be 1,300 companies exhibiting and the exhibition space will take up an area of almost 60 thousand square metres. Unipetrol RPA is the only producer of plastics from the Czech Republic to have a stand at the trade fair this year.

"The trade fair is an opportunity for us to present our products to new potential customers and possibility of meeting up with existing business partners in very concentrated period of time is also important. However, to participate in this event is important also for other reason. Unipetrol is one of the most important producers of plastics in the region of Central Europe and has laid the groundwork for strengthening of its current position on the European market even further. Regardless of the current crisis impact, our products are and very perspective and their consumption will undoubtedly increase over the mid and long-term period," says Tomáš Francírek, director of sales and marketing of unit BU III – Polyolefiny.

Unipetrol RPA currently offers over thirty types of polymers on the basis of polyethylene under the Liten brand and similar number of Mosten polypropylenes. The properties of these products allow for various methods of processing and wide-ranging use practically in all branches of industry.

Polyolefins has been produced in Záluží near Most since 1975. Production of polyethylene was extended by second production unit in 2002, polypropylene has been produced in entirely new unit since 2003. Unipetrol RPA nowadays exports a relatively large amount of these polymers it produces, especially to countries in Western Europe. Unipetrol RPA devotes a great deal of attention to quality management and meeting European and international norms (ISO 9001, EN ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001).

Demand for plastics is growing the world over, by as much as six percent per year in recent years. Having said this, further increase is expected in Europe too, where consumption in the Central and Eastern European region is still nowhere near the level seen in Western countries. In 2007, demand in Central and Eastern Europe fluctuated around the level of 6.5 million tons whereas in Western Europe consumption was 40.5 million tons (see graph).
