Unipetrol donates CZK 2.2 million to municipalities

10-11-2016

Prague, October 11, 2016 – Also this year Unipetrol continues to support the development of the towns in the region where it operates – by providing financial donations. A total of 16 municipalities will split the amount of 2,260,000 crowns and they themselves will decide on what charitable projects they will spend these donations. The money will be used primarily to rebuild local infrastructure, to cultural events and for development of sport activities for youth.

For the Unipetrol Group Social Responsibility is a strategic priority. We care about being perceived as good neighbors in the regions in which we operate. Therefore Unipetrol systematic cooperation with the cities of Most, Litvínov and Meziboří dates back to 1999. Up to the present time, the group of partners has been enlarged to include sixteen towns and communities of the region Usti and Middle Bohemia,” says Andrzej Modrzejewski, CEO of Unipetrol RPA.

An important part of the projects promoted by Unipetrol consist mainly of cultural and social events or sport clubs’ activities. The town of Most will distribute the donation among 12 projects and entities, namely the support of sporting events and sports organizations operating in the area of the town, but the financial donation will be given also to Ore Mountain Technical Museum. In Meziboří for instance they are getting ready for a total reconstruction of sports venues, in Brandov they are currently converting a movie theatre into culture hall and the village of Klíny is about to complete a fire tank.

Towns around the refinery in Kralupy will use their financial donations for example to build a new sewerage and sewage disposal plant, to support working with children or on purchase of outdoor playground elements. The town of Kralupy nad Vltavou will build an outdoor gym in the area of the ice station which will then be also publically accessible.

Following towns will be among the receivers of Unipetrol Group’s financial support: Brandov, Český Jiřetín, Hora Svaté Kateřiny, Horní Jiřetín, Chvatěruby, Klíny, Kralupy nad Vltavou, Litvínov, Lom, Louka u Litvínova, Mariánské Radčice, Meziboří, Most, Nová Ves v Horách, Veltrusy and Želenice.

Since 2010 the Group has been organizing the employee money collection called Fulfilled Wishes which doubles the financial contributions donated by the employees and the money is then handed over to non-profit organizations. Since 2012 Unipetrol employees can spend one working day a year in a selected non-profit organization.

Environmental protection is equally important. Unipetrol in cooperation with the Czech Fishing Union stocks fish into the Bílina River. Together with ALKA Association the company also supports nesting of falcons in its chemical premises.
