Unipetrol releases 6,500 fish into the River Bílina

12-11-2013

Unipetrol RPA and the Czech Fishing Union - Union for the Northern Bohemia Area Union (ČRS SÚS) released about 6,500 fish into the River Bílina earlier today. Today's event is a part of long-term cooperation between Unipetrol RPA and the ČRS SÚS Ústí nad Labem which began in 2010.
"The autumn release of the River Bílina with original fish species is another step in this valuable cooperation between Unipetrol RPA and the Czech Fishing Union. The species of fish selected form the foundation for a balanced community of organisms in running waters. The ČRS SÚS regularly monitors the fish population in the River Bílina. Thanks to improving quality of the environment, we have registered a positive trend in the numbers of fish. On the lower reaches of the River Bílina, the fish population is fairly large; the aim of cooperation between Unipetrol RPA and the Czech Fishing Union is to ensure an appropriate population of fish in the remaining reaches of this river," comments Václav Jelínek, ČRS - Northern Bohemia Area Union fish technician.
"Cooperation with the Czech Fishing Union began in 2010 and is now in its fourth successful year. It gives us great pleasure that we can contribute in this way to further improvement of the quality of the fish population in a river which in the past was particularly hard hit by human activity," says on behalf of Unipetrol Pavel Sláma, Director of the Health, Safety and Environment.
A total of325 kg, i.e. 6,500 of selected sizes of common roach, ide, rudd, perch, crucian carp and bream were collected together for autumn release. Five ideal places were designated for releasing the fish in the surroundings of the villages of České Zlatníky, Želenice, Hostomice, Lysec and Lbín.
Cooperation will continue by selecting a similar number of adult members of the above species which are to be released in the spring of next year in places ideal for natural spawning in the River Bílina itself and so will help to support the natural cycle of renewal of fish communities in the river.
Since 2010, Unipetrol RPA has donated 300,000 crowns to stocking the River Bílina with fish. During this time, fish, mainly carp and ide, have been released into the river on several occasions.
