Hundreds of children and adults lured by Unipetrol attractions at chemistry fair in Pardubice

Prague, 22 July 2011 – A “Chemistry Fair” has taken place at the University of Pardubice, organised during the International Year of Chemistry 2011. Unipetrol, the general partner of the fair and the International Year of Chemistry 2011 in the Czech Republic, together with the organizer of the event, the University of Pardubice, has attracted hundreds of visitors, who could discover the attractiveness of the contemporary chemistry.

“We are the general partner of the Year of Chemistry in the Czech Republic to help increase interest in chemistry by children and young people, as it is currently viewed by many students as a difficult and boring subject. We are therefore presenting chemistry in a fun and effective way at the chemistry fairs, and want to show that it is worth studying,” said Unipetrol’s CEO and Chairman, Piotr Chełmiński.

In Pardubice, the Unipetrol presentation included, for example, a stand with molecular gastronomy, where visitors could taste unique specialities. Racing driver Roman Kresta also attended the event, giving an autograph session. He also presented his car, which uses Mogul oil produced by Paramo, a subsidiary of Unipetrol.

The Paramo fire department ensured the safety of the event and also showed visitors a foam fire truck and forklift platform, which attendees could travel upon to heights of several dozen metres. The Unipetrol presentation was supplemented with samples of oil products, the automotive tanker from subsidiary Petrotrans, and a mobile testing lab from company SGS, which normally provides supervision over the quality of fuels at Benzina petrol stations. The event included competitions, with the winner taking home a bicycle.

Michael Londesborough, the well-known chemistry and science promoter, was also present at the fair. He showed children and adult visitors an educational and also spectacular show full of chemistry “tricks”.

Unipetrol will support another two chemistry fairs during the Year of Chemistry 2011, on 21 September in Ústí nad Labem and on 23 September in Prague.
