Unipetrol extends partnership with UCT, will need hundreds of chemists

​Unipetrol and University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague signed an agreement on strategic partnership extending the collaboration for another year. Unipetrol will support UCT, Prague with 800,000 CZK.

„At Unipetrol, we are currently facing generation change which requires  from us to proactively look for young, zealous, well-educated chemistry graduates who have potential to replace our well qualified and experienced employees in the future. We are thus aiming at cooperating not only with prestigious UCT, Prague but also with other high school of chemical and technical specialization, “says Andrzej Modrzejewski, CEO of Unipetrol.

„Our cooperation has been going on for 14 years delivering some exceptional results. We have built a joint university center, implemented a series of popularizing events; we are working on high school projects and our graduates are valued employees at numerous positions in Unipetrol, “says Karel Melzoch, rector of UCT, Prague.

As part of the agreement, Unipetrol will support five projects. Students will be awarded about 200,000 crowns for the best theses and the best academic results. In the traditionally encouraged project – “Hour of Modern Chemistry” - the UCT representatives present an interactive sample lesson full of chemical experiments at various schools throughout the Czech Republic. Other joint projects include the Chemistry Olympics for middle and high schools or Sumer School for high school teachers and Fall School for middle school teachers.  The best presentations are awarded as part of student scientific conference. 

University Centre UCT Prague – Unipetrol
Long-term cooperation, which started in 2002, culminated last year by founding of the University Center UCT Prague – Unipetrol located directly in the production premises Chempark Záluží. The center is currently attended by 42 undergraduate and 11 graduate students who can choose from three specializations: chemistry and chemical technology, alternative energy and environment or food technology. 

 
UNIPETROL, a.s. controls companies, which are active in the petrochemical industry in the Czech Republic. In 2005, UNIPETROL became part of PKN ORLEN Group, the largest processor of crude oil in Central Europe. The UNIPETROL Group is mainly focused on processing of crude oil, distribution of fuels and petrochemical production. University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague is the top research technical university with supra-regional reach. In addition to professional education in bachelor’s, master’s and PhD study programs, it provides quality basic and applied research in a wide range of fields including chemistry, technology, and engineering, materials, biochemistry, biotechnologies, pharmacy and food industry. Founded in 1952, UCT, Prague currently consists of four faculties – the Faculty of Chemical Technology, Faculty of Environmental Technology, Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology and Faculty of Chemical Engineering.
