ORLEN Unipetrol employees have again joined Volunteer Days this year. This event is organised by the ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation. More than 170 employees have this year helped in various social, ecological, and educational facilities throughout the Czech Republic. Volunteer Days have become a solid part of ORLEN Unipetrol’s corporate culture, addressing specific needs in various organisations each year. The ORLEN Unipetrol Group is one of the largest companies in the Czech Republic, focusing its CSR activities on the locations of its production plants and sales agencies. ORLEN Unipetrol has organised Volunteer Days on a regular basis since 2012. They allow employees to help directly in the field.
“I am happy that our employees engage in Volunteer Days enthusiastically each year. This tradition demonstrates that helping others has a strong place at our company. Volunteer Days are popular among our employees and provide both specific help and a sense of belonging and meaningfulness. Our employees demonstrate that they are not indifferent to the space in which they live and work. We’re proud of their willingness to help and contribute to improving life in our regions,” said Lucie Pražáková, Director of the ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation. This year, volunteers have helped in nine locations throughout the Czech Republic.
The first group of employees was involved in building a new fence for horses at Vrbová stáj in Přelouč. They painted wooden planks and adapted the space around the stalls to create a safe and pleasant environment for the animals. About 30 volunteers were also engaged in adapting school gardens and painting wooden elements at three primary schools and kindergartens in Litvínov. Thus, they contributed to improving the environment where children spend their time. Other volunteers assisted in painting wooden aviaries at the Aves animal rescue station in Brandýsko, which cares for injured and handicapped animals. Some other employees helped adapt the premises at the Rajhrad animal rescue station.
The largest group of 45 employees helped anglers in Most clean the ponds around the town. This event had an ecological dimension and contributed to protecting nature and improving the public space. Fourteen other volunteers came to the Dog planet shelter to clean dog kennels, adapt a fence, and walk the dogs. Their work brought relief to the shelter’s employees and made the animals happy. Other employees helped in the Veltrusy Castle park to adapt the greenery and improve the historical premises, which are a popular destination for tourists and visitors. Twelve volunteers painted fences and wooden pergolas in the garden adjacent to the Sulická retirement home in Prague. Their work contributed to improving the environment where the seniors spend their own time. Eight employees helped paint and adapt a garden at the shelter in Kralupy nad Vltavou.
The ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation not only organises Volunteer Days but also provides contributions to the organisations involved for the aids used during their events. This approach makes the assistance more efficient, targeted and sustainable. Volunteer Days will continue in September when the employees join additional projects. For instance, they will adapt the garden and internal premises at the Alzheimer Home in Zlín or clean the Bird Park at Střimická výsypka in the district of Most.
