Strategy of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group until 2030
Greenhouse gas emissions of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group 2022
We will produce recycled plastics
We have received an internationally recognized certification for the processing of hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) on an ethylene unit. This bio-circular and biogenic material has exactly the same quality as material produced from fossil raw materials. In this way, we are able to produce polyethylene, ethylene and benzene in addition to polypropylene. We are testing chemical recycling using the principles of pyrolysis, or thermal decomposition at elevated temperatures. It is a technology that makes it possible to reuse waste plastics materially.
We process and produce biofuel
We will use biofuels from waste wood, but also from sawdust, straw or algae, so that in the near future they will serve as a bio-component of the second generation and be mixed into fuels. Biofuel produced from wood chips does not have to be used only for mixing, but a vehicle with a diesel engine can run purely on this new biofuel.
We save hundreds of thousands of wagons of coal and reduce CO2 emissions
As part of continuous modernization, meeting emission limits and the commitment to be carbon neutral by 2050, we intend to replace the existing coal-fired heating plant in Litvínov with a completely new steam-gas heating plant, which would replace the aging T700 heating plant. At the same time, we are replacing existing coal-fired heating plants with new steam-gas units. We built a gas heating plant for the ethylene unit in Litvínov, Spolana in Neratov already has a new boiler.
We will produce hydrogen as a fuel
We support the construction of infrastructure for hydrogen electromobility. We deal with specific projects for the efficient production of hydrogen from alternative sources, i.e. without a carbon footprint.
We will reuse waste water and heat
We focus on the use of waste heat for further production of electricity and the backwar recovery of gases from field burners. If the technology is available, we will further develop this area.
We want to make maximum use of the most modern technologies to increase the efficiency, safety and quality of the production of our products. This will speed up technological work, save time and energy, reduce production costs and have a positive impact on the environment.
